Heartbroken Again

Abused and left to die, she laid where they left her. Eyes sunken with despair, dried tears plastered on a dirt-stained face.

The same lesson has been taught, different professors used.

Memories danced across the pavement, mocking her for the fool she’d been.

A dashing smile and preordained seduction, he had coaxed the walls down and she let him in.

The warning bells had rung, the sirens blasted. Still, she hadn’t listened; holding tightly to a fantasy that the affair would have lasted.

The kiss of betrayal came all too quickly when he ripped her to pieces and left her to bleed.

With open wounds, she now laid here suffering, a victim to a lover’s insatiable greed.

The healing process she’ll have to start again, stitching up the places where he had been.

How much more will you take until you turn ice cold? Isn’t it disheartening how often this story has been told?

Stop bleeding! I now command thee.

Oh fragile heart, please stop destroying me.
